The Airdrop Subteam develops payload delivery and retrieval systems for RU Autonomous drones. By designing and testing modular adapters, parachute systems, and recovery mechanisms, they expand the capabilities of the platform while supporting other subteams’ missions. Their work ensures payloads are deployed safely, accurately, and reliably in a variety of mission profiles.
Airdrop takes advantage of the quick turnaround granted by in-house 3D modeling and printing, along with CNC and composite fabrication, to create innovative and modular airdrop components. The team iterates on drag chute and parachute systems, recovery mechanisms, and adapter interfaces, validating designs through simulations, bench testing, and flight trials to ensure consistent performance under real-world conditions.
